5. Trey Songz was a barber-in-training
If Trey Songz’s career as a musician didn’t take off, you’d probably find him at a barber shop cutting hair.
In a former MTV show titled, “When I was 17,” Trey revealed that he dropped out of high school and was training to be a barber when he was a teen.
"I cut everybody's hair for the prom,” he said on the show."The whole week of prom, like every day, probably at least five to 10 guys would come over to the house to get a shape-up. My clippers got so hot. I remembered I messed my homeboy's head up so bad, he had scars for, like, the next two days."
4. He looks up to D’Angelo
Trey Songz has previously named D'Angelo has one of his greatest musical influences. And though he loves R.Kelly’s music, Trey is tired of people comparing him to the legendary R&B singer.
3. He won a contest to sing with Aretha Franklin
At the age of 17, Trey Songz won a music contest that earned him a spot to sing on Aretha Franklin’s album. Trey later went on to sing background for B2K on their hit single, “Bump, Bump, Bump.”
2. His producers inspired his stage name
Trey Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, got his stage name when his producers repeatedly labeled his demo tapes “Trey’s Songs.” Trey changed the “s” to a “z” and eventually the name stuck.
1. The tattoo on his chest is dedicated to his family members
Trey Songz is very close to his family, so he got a chest tattoo in honor of his mother, grandmother, and brother.
It reads, “To God I pray may April's shower's rain on her Forrest and grow the strength that started with one Rose."
Trey Songz’s mother’s name is April, his brother’s name is Forrest, and his grandmother’s name is Rose.
